Energy UK: 'Switching is dead easy'

14 March 2014 Last updated at 10:50 GMT

The body representing energy companies has claimed that switching is "dead easy" following criticism that new simplified energy tariffs are still too confusing.

A Which? survey of 500 people, found that only 35% picked the cheapest deal - despite the new format bills introduced by the regulator Ofgem to make the charges easier to understand.

Speaking to BBC News, Alun Rees from Energy UK defended the number of tariffs: "People like different things: One customer might want to fix their prices for a certain time to protect themselves against future rises... some might want to pay less at night to save money."
