Will Westgate Mall attack affect Kenya's emerging economy?

24 September 2013 Last updated at 10:51 BST

The weekend attack on the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi was also a "stake in the heart" of Africa's emerging commercial culture, according to a Kenya-based analyst.

East Africa Analyst Aly-Khan Satchu told BBC World how the attack would affect business confidence in the country: "All this optimism was building and now we've been hit by this scenario."

"For foreign investors, as long as this is a one-time event, this is one of the risks of investing deep at the frontier; but if it represents a new and more uncertain normal, it will be problematic".
