French union strikes over pension reform

10 September 2013 Last updated at 12:31 BST

Flights and train services are disrupted in France as members of the country's biggest labour union strike ahead of a parliamentary debate about pension reform.

The CGT fears the changes will make it harder for young people to get jobs but the French government insists the current welfare bill is unaffordable.

BBC Paris correspondent Christian Fraser says without reform the pension funding gap will jump from 14 to 20 billion euros by 2020.
