US Federal Reserve: Uncertainty over 'tapering' plans

The US Federal Reserve has suggested that its financial support for the American economy could be eased, possibly as early as next month.

The hint came in the minutes of the central bank's latest meeting. Speculation about the move saw the Indian currency plunge.

Emerging economies have been among the chief beneficiaries of the US stimulus programme.
