Rail fares set to rise for 11th consecutive year

13 August 2013 Last updated at 13:59 BST

Rail fares are to rise by an average of 4.1% for commuters in England despite a slight fall in inflation.

The increase will come into effect in January next year on all regulated fares including season tickets.

Trade unions have organised protests at stations around the country and called for the rail network to be returned to public ownership.

Richard Wescott reports.
