CBI: Sandwich courses could help young get jobs

31 July 2013 Last updated at 11:19 BST

The CBI is encouraging universities to introduce more courses that enable students to earn while they learn.

The number of people undertaking part-time undergraduate training has fallen by 40% over the past few years.

Employer-backed "sandwich" courses give students practical work experience or allow them to support their studies.

CBI policy director Katja Hall told BBC Radio 5 live's Wake Up to Money: "Universities need to be more creative in developing courses... that will help those young people get jobs in a really competitive jobs market."
