GlaxoSmithKline staff in China bribery claims

11 July 2013 Last updated at 17:34 BST

Senior executives at Britain's largest pharmaceutical company, GlaxoSmithKline, are being investigated over suspected bribery and tax violations, Chinese officials say.

The Chinese Ministry of Public Security was already investigating the Chinese division of the company for "economic crimes", but it is not clear if that investigation is related to the latest allegations.

The BBC's John Sudworth in Shanghai said that GSK says Thursday's announcement was the first official notification it has received about the investigation.
