Fears over EU-US energy price divide

The cost of energy used to be roughly the same on both sides of the Atlantic, but the US-led revolution in shale oil and gas has sent prices tumbling.

Power costs are now up to 40% lower in the US than in Europe, fuelling fears about the competitiveness of European industries.
