Indian business owners protest against new tax

Faced with sometimes mind-boggling layers of taxation, Indian businesses have long been demanding a single unified goods and services tax, known as GST.

This week traders in Maharashtra protested against a new tax that will be levied by local authorities and reiterated calls for a single tax.

Although successive national budgets have outlined efforts to implement this central tax, it still faces many challenges.
