Deal makes Liberty Global 'largest cable operator'
Virgin Media is being bought by Liberty Global - an international Cable operator who are market leaders in most of their 11 countries - including Ireland.
The combined company will have 25 million customers in 14 countries, and will likely prove to be a powerful rival to Rupert Murdoch in the UK pay TV market.
Speaking to the Today programme, Nick Thomas, an analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media - said: "With this deal Liberty Global has become, by some definitions, the largest cable operator in the world."
