Jersey has a "robust suite" of financial regulations, the director general of the Jersey Financial Services Commission has said.

John Harris was speaking after HSBC bank said that it was looking into allegations that criminals have used offshore accounts at its Jersey operation for money laundering.

The bank issued a statement after the Daily Telegraph newspaper said it was at the centre of a major investigation by HM Revenue and Customs.

Mr Harris told BBC News that any concerns about "money of possible criminal origin" would be investigated.
