Stores shut despite UK sales rise

Retail sales in September grew by 2.9% year on year (excluding fuel), but new research suggests the economic slump in the UK is still taking its toll on some of the high street's big names.

The report, from consultants PwC and the retail information group Local Data Company, said that in July and August stores with multiple outlets closed more that 20 shops a day.
