Anglo American Platinum suspends South Africa operations

Help

Anglo American Platinum, the world's largest platinum producer, has suspended its operations at its South African mines.

The company blamed "the current volatile situation in the Rustenburg area", and said that its actions were to protect the safety of its employees.

Protesters outside its mine there were demanding a wage increase, and have threatened those who turned up for work.

Shares in Anglo American fell almost 3% in London.

Milton Nkosi reports.
