The auction house Christie's is profiting from the economic boom in Asia.

Its sales surpassed $3bn (£1.9bn) for the first half of the year, a 13% rise from the same period last year.

Christie's says Asian participation at its auctions has almost doubled over the past few years.

Jonathan Stone, Chairman of Asian Art at Christie's told the BBC's Rico Hizon that Chinese buyers are fuelling the sales, buying lifestyle items such as wine and jewellery as well as paintings by the old European Masters.
