Sri Lanka gets to grips with daily outages

Power cuts are a problem for many Asian countries but Sri Lanka is one nation that has fared pretty well.

Even during the latter part of its civil war, the country managed to keep most infrastructure operating.

But nnow it's experiencing its first regular, scheduled electricity cuts in 11 years.

They started late last month, and the daily outages are being lengthened from Thursday.

The BBC's Charles Haviland reports from Colombo.
