Intercontinental in profits jump

The world's biggest hotel company, Intercontinental, has reported a sharp jump in profits, earning $178m (£114m) pre-tax in the three months to the end of June.

The owner of the Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza brands also saw revenues increase, with a 17% rise in China and a 6% increase in Europe more than compensating for a decrease in the US.
