Ed Balls tells MPs he never tried to influece interest rates

Ed Balls has dismissed claims from the Chancellor George Osborne that he was among Whitehall ministers who sought to influence the Libor inter-bank interest rates in 2008.

The shadow chancellor said he had "never spoken to anybody" about the Libor rate during the 2008 financial crisis or at any time as a minister.
