US and Philippines 'enjoy strong ties'


Philippine President Benigno Aquino will meet President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and US Senate leaders over the next few days during his US tour.

Talks will focus on defence, security and the South China Sea, as well as on economic ties.

The Philippines has strong links with the US, both economically and culturally. In fact, many locals are obsessed with all things US.

But some feel American influence is too far-reaching. The BBC's Kate McGeown reports from Manila.
