Intercontinental Hotels boss: 'optimistic about economy'

On Monday the Dow Jones in New York briefly topped the 13,000 mark for the first time since May 2008.

This boost is due to the better than expected rise in US consumer confidence.

It is expected that the fourth quarter figures for the US will show growth of 2.8%.

One way of measuring the economy is to look at how hotels are faring.

Richard Solomons, the chief executive of Intercontinental Hotels, told Michelle Fleury he is "optimistic about the long term prospects" of the US economy.
