Malaysia sugar subsidy questioned

The Malaysian government has doubled the amount it spends on subsidising the price of sugar, as it eyes a general election later this year.

The move will help to keep sugar costs in Malaysia down at a time of rising global prices.

The BBC's Jennifer Pak explains why the increase is controversial, with a consumer group saying the extra cash could be spent elsewhere.
