Brazil World Cup 2014: Preparations face familiar woes
The sign reads "mark of the first kick"
Here's my report on Brazil's preparations for the World Cup in 2014.
It is a familiar tale. With three years to go they are running behind schedule and costs are rising. But chances are, as usual, they will pull it off at the last minute.
There is a broader point, however. Many of the problems the World Cup organisers are facing, such as poor infrastructure and red tape, are ones that have been holding back Brazil's economy for decades.

Indeed, Rio is behing. One such delay includes addressing public health. In the county of Barra da Tijuca, where most buildings are being constructed to host the games and to house the athletic teams, open sewers and piles of garbage strewn around the streets of the communities of Tijuquinha and Rio das Pedras. This is threat to the safety of the participants and the visitors to this major event.

I am in Brazil right now and I agree that Brazil is far from being ready for the World Cup. It is a good thing that the media is pressing because the World Cup belongs to the "World".
Besides the basic infrastructure necessary for the event, there is much work to be done in order to ensure public health. The many favelas that exist in the vicinity

Nice to see the cash strapped BBC can afford such trips. Bet the flights were economy class and the hotel 2star? Piity the people on here who are robbed of the licence fee each year can't afford the same luxury. It wouldn't be so bad if the report needed it, or the information in the report was sufficiently detailed, accurate or could have only been gather 'on the ground'. None of this applies.
