Renault drives back into profit but rules out China move

10 February 2011 Last updated at 12:33 GMT

The French car maker Renault has motored its way back to profit. The company's net profit for last year was $4.6bn compared with a loss of $4.2bn in 2009.

The improvement is largely being put down to growth in emerging markets and a cost-cutting programme.

It is these emerging markets of Brazil, India and Russia that Renault intends to concentrate on, coupled with a new focus on smaller, cheaper models.

The BBC's auto industry expert, Jorn Madslien says this is a clever move as competition is not so fierce in those markets compared to China where other car markers are piling in.
