Wrong tax bill for almost six million people in UK

Help

Almost six million people in the UK have paid the wrong amount of income tax in the past year, with some facing a bill of up to £1,400 - although others can expect a rebate.

The mistakes were spotted by a new computer system.

While some 4.3 million people have overpaid a total of £1.8bn, a further 1.4 million people owe £2bn because of errors in their PAYE contributions.

Joe Lynam reports.
