George Clooney's new girl and benefit changes - the front pages
- 28 April 2014
And so to the story that provides the British press with a photo opportunity few editors can resist - Hollywood star George Clooney's new girlfriend.
The man the Sun calls "Hollywood's most eligible bachelor" has announced his engagement to 36-year-old British lawyer Amal Alamuddin.
Dan Wootton - the paper's showbiz editor, and a man with an apparent hotline to Mr Clooney's emotional state - says "the silver fox" has been warming to the idea of marriage for the last two years.
The Daily Express treats its readers to a run-down of George's ex-girlfriends - and yes, it is extensive.
Miss Alamuddin, it notes, provides legal advice to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, as well as the King of Bahrain and has assisted the judge at the trial of former Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic.
The Daily Mail, noting that ladies across the globe will be heartbroken by this news, says Miss Alamuddin hooked the notoriously commitment-phobic Mr Clooney by playing hard to get: very hard to get.
The Daily Telegraph says the actor was "captivated by Miss Alamuddin's intelligence as well as her beauty".
