Answers

  1. It's Abercrombie & Fitch. Human rights officials in France are investigating the American clothing retailer for choosing staff based on their physical appearance. The company says it employs models to attract customers but the group suspect the employees are in fact sales people.
  2. It was causing alarm and distress - particularly to other customers. The woman was initially refused service while in the saddle in the drive-through lane of the restaurant. She then led the animal inside, where it defecated on the floor.
  3. It's Julian Assange, who is holed up at the Ecuadorean embassy in London. The Australian founder of the whistleblowing website said the WikiLeaks Party would field seven candidates for upper house Senate seats in the states of New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia.
  4. It was KFC. The top 20 included Nike and Armani as well as Adidas and Apple. The masses of new middle-class consumers in China are one of the big targets for global companies battling the sluggish economies of Europe and North America.
  5. It's smoking. A call by France's health minister for local authorities to ban smoking in parks and on beaches has sparked a lively debate.
  6. It's Caroline Bingley, who was trying to attract Fitzwilliam Darcy's attention when she uttered the words. Bingley is uninterested in literature and chooses her book merely because it is the second volume of the one that Darcy is reading at the time.
  7. It's sand dunes, which are migrating over the Tunisian desert. The buildings of the fictional city Mos Espa that featured in The Phantom Menace, Episode I of the Jedi saga, may eventually be buried.
