Paper Monitor: Trigger happy metaphors

sony phones

What d'you think of when you see a big phone?

The Sun has no problem personifying a large mobile.

"Hellooo!! To The Dom Joly Phone" goes the headline announcing the launch of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra.

The screen is twice the size of an iPhone 5. It's a "phablet" apparently.

A decade after it ended, Trigger Happy TV's star is still the go-to guy for the big phone it seems. Of course it might also be that he sometimes writes columns for the red top.

But still, there's something rather nice about the idea that technology appears to be aping the dimensions of his primitive hardware.

Or is it? The new Sony is 6.4 inches across diagonally.

Big. But not Joly big.
