Protests after Sri Lankan president's power increased

Sri Lankan MPs have approved proposals to let President Mahinda Rajapaksa seek an unlimited number of terms, in a move critics say could lead to dictatorship.

The constitutional amendments also hugely increase the president's powers.

Hundreds of supporters of the main opposition party protested against the amendments and an effigy of the president was burnt outside parliament.
