Is Egypt still a safe destination for holidaymakers?

Tourism used to employ 12% of Egypt's workforce - but since the fall of Hosni Mubarak in 2011 an unknown number are either workless or making no money.

The UK Foreign Office has advised people to avoid all but essential travel to most parts of the country, but UK tourists can still visit Red Sea resorts such as Sharm El Sheikh.

But is Egypt a safe destination for travellers?

Bob Atkinson from TravelSupermarket told BBC Radio 5 live's Wake Up to Money: "If you feel comfortable going... make sure its an ATOL backed holiday as you will be part of the evacuation plan. If you travel independently, you run all sorts of risks."
