Egyptian army spokesman defends use of force

A spokesman for the Egyptian army has defended the use of force in clashes with supporters of Egypt's ousted President Mohammed Morsi.

Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Ali told the BBC's James Reynolds that the protesters were armed and caused a "national security issue".

It follows the deaths of seven people in Cairo following violent clashes on Monday.
