Turnip shortage threatens Isle of Man Hop Tu Naa festival

Severe weather over the summer has resulted in a crop failure threatening the Isle of Man Hop Tu Naa celebration.

The event is celebrated on 31 October and marks the safe gathering-in of the harvest.

Turnips are carved as part of the celebration but Cregneash Village Farm Manager Peter Kelly said: "Usually there are around two thousand turnips in the field.

"At the moment there are a dozen at most."
