Berlusconi allies defy him over confidence vote

There are signs that Silvio Berlusconi's attempt to bring down the ruling coalition in Italy is faltering.

Colleagues in his party have rejected his call to withdraw support from the government ahead of a crucial confidence vote in parliament tomorrow.
