Italy coach crash: 'No sign of braking'

The scene of a crash where a coach plunged off a flyover in southern Italy leaving at least 38 people dead was "horrific" according to a witness.

The coach hit several vehicles before smashing through a parapet and toppling down a steep slope near the town of Avellino, in the Campania region.

Photojournalist Sandro di Domenico, who works for an Italian newspaper, says one police officer at the scene could see "no sign of brakes on the ground".

He added that another eyewitness said the driver has saved lives of other motorists by swerving the out-of-control vehicle into the guardrail.
