France backs ending EU arms embargo on Syria

The European Union ban on supplying arms to the opposition forces in Syria should be lifted, according to the French president.

Francois Hollande said: "We are ready to support the rebels, so we are ready to go that far."

Mr Hollande was speaking in Brussels on the eve of the second anniversary of the start of the Syrian revolution.
