Francois Hollande: Europe must act in favour of peace in Mali

French President Francois Hollande has defended taking military action in Mali and told the European Parliament they need to "act now in favour of peace... and security".

Meanwhile some 1,800 soldiers from Chad have entered Kidal, the last major town in northern Mali under rebel control, according to the French military.
