Can new carols compete with classics?
It is a tradition that the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is broadcast live from the candlelit chapel of King's College in Cambridge on Radio 4 on Christmas Eve.
While the service of readings and music has remained virtually unchanged since it was first held in 1918, in the last 30 years it has always featured a new, specially commissioned carol.
The BBC's Rebecca Jones has been finding out if contemporary carols can compete with the old favourites.
