Protesters try to halt nuclear waste train in Germany

Anti-nuclear protesters have clashed with police in northern Germany, where activists are holding demonstrations and attempting to halt the progress of a train carrying nuclear waste.

The highly radioactive material is from a nuclear fuel reprocessing facility in Normandy, France, and is being transported to Gorleben for storage.

The BBC's Tristana Moore says nuclear power remains a very emotive issue in Germany despite a government pledge to shut down all the country's reactors by 2017.
