India's PM makes appeal for calm after rape protests

Protests are continuing across India after the gang rape of a 23-year-old student.

After some criticism for not speaking out, the Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh has made a televised appeal for calm.

He said that all efforts would be made to ensure the safety of women. The BBC's Sanjoy Majumder reports.
