Doubts raised over new voluntary Taiwan military force
Taiwan is one of the few countries in Asia which still has mandatory military service.
However, conscription is increasingly seen as having lost its purpose.
This is partly because relations with Taiwan's former rival, mainland China, are at their best since the end of the civil war 64 years ago.
The government is trying to phase out conscription and build an all-voluntary professional force, but some doubt it will succeed.
