Bangladesh hangs Islamist leader Abdul Kader Mullah

An opposition leader convicted of war crimes in Bangladesh during the country's 1971 war of independence, has been executed.

The Supreme Court cleared the way for Abdul Kader Mullah's death sentence after judges rejected a last minute appeal.

Security had been stepped up throughout Bangladesh after the ruling.
