Japan suspends annual whale hunt in Australian waters

Anti-whaling groups are claiming victory after the Japanese whaling fleet suspended its annual hunt in the Southern Ocean.

It follows clashes between two anti-whaling boats and a Japanese factory ship, in what protesters claim were Australian waters.

The captain of one of the protest ships said it was the most dangerous confrontation he had witnessed.

Nick Bryant reports.
