A look back at the life of Ravi Shankar

Indian sitar maestro Ravi Shankar has died in a hospital in the US, aged 92.

His family say he was admitted to the Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California, last week, but failed to recover from surgery.

Shankar gained widespread recognition through his association with The Beatles and has been described as a "national treasure" by the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
