UN: Central African Republic 'descending into chaos'

The UN deputy secretary-general has said that a peacekeeping operation will be needed in the Central African Republic (CAR).

Jan Eliasson urged the Security Council and the international community to support the African Union-led peace operation.

The Central African Republic has been in a state of chaos since rebels seized power in March, ousting President Francois Bozize.

UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson said that the "use of child soldiers is rising sexual violence is growing" in the nation.
