Cardinals gather to begin papal conclave

Cardinals from the Roman Catholic Church were officially summoned to Rome from around the world on Friday to begin the process of choosing a new pope.

The cardinals will officially convene for the first time on Monday morning, following Benedict XVI's standing down on Thursday evening.
