Katongo wins African football award

Zambia captain Christopher Katongo is named 2012 BBC African Footballer of the Year

Zambia captain Christopher Katongo, 30, has been voted BBC African Footballer of the Year 2012.

Katongo, who plays club football for Chinese side Henan Construction, won just over 40% of the votes, holding off Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast and Shanghai Shenhua), Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast and Manchester City), Younes Belhanda (Morocco and Montpelier) and Demba Ba (Senegal and Newcastle).

Karotongo told the BBC: ''This is fantastic and something I will never forget in my entire footballing career.''
