Malawi's Joyce Banda: 'I am a servant of the people'

Joyce Banda made history in April when she became Malawi's first female president following the death of Bingu wa Mutharika, who had been serving the last two years of his presidency.

Mrs Banda had served as his deputy, and inherited a seriously battered economy.

She told the BBC's Lerato Mbele that her priorities had been to get the economy back on track, and to restore Malawi's image.

''I am a servant of the people,'' she added.
