Extreme World: Hot and Cold

Lake Assai in Djibouti, East Africa, is the lowest point on the continent at 150m below sea level and one of the hottest parts of the world.

Humans need a huge amount of fluid just to survive conditions there - but being a saltwater lake, it is useless as a source of hydration.

Pascale Harter met one of the people who makes a living from the harsh conditions, Ali Hamid, who mines the lake's salt.
