Assembly presiding officer Rosemary Butler on decision to go
Welsh Assembly Presiding Officer and AM for Newport West, Dame Rosemary Butler, has said she is to stand down at the 2016 elections.
She spent 24 years as a councillor in Newport, before becoming an assembly member in 1999 and being elected presiding officer three years ago.
She was made a dame in the 2014 New Years' Honours list for services to women and democracy.
She told Vaughan Roderick on Sunday Supplement that she had announced her retirement now to give her party plenty of time to find a good candidate to replace her.
