Kandahar helicopter crash was in 'intelligence' area

The helicopter crash in Afghanistan which killed two Welsh soldiers happened in an area that is hosting an important campaign against the Taliban, says a defence expert.

Capt Thomas Clarke, of the Air Army Corps, from Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan and L/Cpl Oliver Thomas, of the Intelligence Corps, from Brecon, were among the five UK service personnel to die in the crash in Kandahar province.

Robert Fox, defence editor of the London Evening Standard, said Kandahar is the focus of international cooperation in surveillance and special forces.
