Cambrian Coast railway line to reopen fully by summer

A further section of the Cambrian Coast railway through Gwynedd is to be reopened at the start of May following storm damage.

The line from Machynlleth to Pwllheli was severely damaged by this winter's storms and repairs costing over £10m are currently taking place with replacement bus services put on in the meantime.

But it will be early summer before trains are running over the whole railway meaning towns like Porthmadog, Criccieth and Pwllheli will be without a train service for some months yet.

The ongoing disruption is due to work replacing the Pont Briwet bridge north of Harlech across the Dwyryd estuary.

Chris Dearden reports.
