First minister fends off Leighton Andrews questions
First Minister Carwyn Jones declined to defend his education minister from opposition claims he undermined his own policy while taking questions from assembly members in the Senedd on Tuesday.
AMs criticised Leighton Andrews for backing a campaign to save a school facing closure in his Rhondda constituency due to his surplus places policy.
Welsh Lib Dem leader Kirsty Williams said Mr Andrews was "undermining" the first minister's leadership and Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies said his actions were affecting confidence in Welsh government.
Leighton Andrews has said he was standing up for his constituents as their assembly member.
Mr Jones did not reply directly to questions about whether he had confidence in his education minister.
Mr Andrews subsequently announced his resignation.
